Jason portrait at National Portrait Gallery of Canada of Bloorcourt

Thank you to curators Jode Roberts @joderoberts and Sarah Lazarovic #sarahlazarovic as well as @gallery1065 owner Monica Gupta for this inspiring exhibition. I'm really pleased to be in this exhibition, already seen by so many people beginning with the amazing opening reception. At one point there was a lineup outside, as the gallery was at capacity!

For reference, almost 20 years ago the Harper government shut down plans to build a national portrait gallery in Ottawa. In response, a frustrated Sarah Lazarovic organized a portrait show in her Toronto garage. Now in 2026, Sarah and co-curator Jode Roberts have mounted an open-call portrait exhibition, hosted by Gallery 1065. Response to the call was terrific with submissions from all over Canada. 65 portraits in various media were chosen by the jury.
